Well it appears that Suicide Squad 2 is finally closing in on a director. According to Mike Fleming Jr. from Deadline, Jaume Collet-Sera is now the frontrunner to direct the upcoming sequel. This may come as a surprise to many because earlier in the year, there were reports of Mel Gibson being sought after to direct the sequel. As cool as a Mel Gibson directed Suicide Squad movie sounds, Jaume is by no means a bad pick to direct the next film.
Jaume is not foreign to directing action films. He has worked numerous times with Liam Neeson and actually just finished filming a movie with him this year that is slated for a 2018 release entitled “The Commuter.” Some of his earlier filmography includes, The Shallows, Non-Stop, and Run All Night. The big question that remains is who exactly will be penning the script because that was one of the main issues the first movie struggled with.
Will Smith and Margot Robbie are expected to reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel, but plot details are still under wraps along with the question as to who else will be returning for the movie. The film will more than likely begin shooting in early 2018 so that it can come out in 2019 after Aquaman debuts.
